About us
About us
															Dear Friend:
I would like to tell you a little about this wonderful castle that has been in our family since my ancestor Francisco del Corral y Guzmán acquired it in 1629 and which, fortunately, has been passed down from generation to generation to the present day.
The passage of time rendered this fortress obsolete, and it fell into disuse and was abandoned. The inclement weather and the use of many of its stones as building blocks for houses in the beautiful village of Almodóvar left the building in very poor condition.
My great-great-grandfather Rafael, twelfth Count of Torralva, inherited this castle and immediately fell in love with it. He wanted it to be his residence and devoted thirty-five years of his life (1902-1936) to it, but unfortunately he did not live to see it completely finished. During this period, the village of Almodóvar threw itself into the reconstruction and today almost all its inhabitants have an ancestor who worked on this pharaonic undertaking.
My grandfather Fernando and later my father continued to look after the castle until, in 2001, we decided to open its doors to visitors and share with them all the history contained within these walls.
Now my wife and I are the privileged ones who dream of being another small link in the chain. But if we have made it this far, it is thanks to many who are no longer with us, and above all, to the team of people we work with every day, whom you can meet if you come to visit us.
Finally, my thanks to all of you who visit us. It is thanks to you that we can complete and preserve the legacy of my uncle Rafael. I hope you enjoy your time at our castle, that you feel the affection we all have for it, and that you are proud, because without you this fortress would probably be forgotten.
Signed: Fernando De Solís-Beaumont
Since 2001, when we first opened this monument to the public, almost all of the castle’s collaborators have continued to work on a project that has evolved over time. Our goal: to raise awareness of this majestic architectural work and its history through unforgettable experiences that bring you closer to the Middle Ages. Below, we introduce you to all those who make this journey through time possible.
